erwise, as may be most convenient to the said land-
holder, which hands shall be worked by said super-
visors in repairing said roads, but in no case shall said
hands be carried more than five miles from their resi-

vided however, that said landholder may at his option
appoint any day within the time limited by this act to
send his hands, and provided further, that they shall
not be required to send them in the months of June
or July.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That in case any
landholder shall refuse to send his hands after having
received the notice as required by this act, it is hereby
made the duty of said supervisor, to have said land-
holder summoned before a justice of said county, and
upon conviction thereof, shall be fined a sum not less
than five nor more than ten dollars for each and every
offence in the discretion of said justice, and said fine
when collected, shall be paid to the county commis-
sioners of said county, to aid in repairing the public
roads.

Compensa-
tion.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That for every day
said hands shall work upon the public roads, the said
landholder shall be entitled to receive seventy five
cents per day for men, and fifty cents for women and
boys, to be paid as now provided by law.

Repealed.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That all or any part of
the act to which this is amendatory, and which is in-
consistent with the provisions of this act, be and the
same is hereby repealed.

In force.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from its passage.
