CHAPTER 303.

Passed Mar.
10, 1856.

AN ACT to incorporate the Potomac Iron and
Bridge Company.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, George Rust, John W. Geary and Alex-
ander Ray have been, under an act of the Legis-
lature of the State of Virginia, constituted a body
corporate, under the name and style of the Poto-
mac Iron Company; and whereas, the lands and
property of the said company are located in Lon-
don county, in the State of Virginia, which said
county is divided from the State of Maryland by
the Potomac River; and whereas, the said com-
pany is desirous to hold and enjoy certain prop-
erty for its uses in the State of Maryland, and to
connect the said property so as aforesaid situated
in Loudon county, with certain property now own-
ed by John W. Geary, one of the persons incor-
porated by the name and style of the Potomac
Iron Company as aforesaid, and to hold said prop-
erty in Frederick county as aforesaid, and do oth-
er nets to carry out within the limits of the State
of Maryland, certain of the powers conferred upon
the said company within the State of Virginia ;
therefore,

Incorporated.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the said George Rust, John
W. Geary and Alexander Ray are hereby constituted
and declared to be a body corporate under the name
and style of the Potomac Iron and Bridge Company.

Power to pur-
chase and bold
land.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said Poto-
mac Iron and Bridge Company shall have power to
purchase and hold five thousand acres of land within
the State of Maryland, and to connect the land own-
ed by the Potomac Iron Company in the State of
Virginia with the land held by the Potomac Iron
and Bridge Company in Frederick county, in the
State of Maryland, by a bridge.

Authorised to
construct rail-
road.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted. That the said Poto-
mac Iron and Bridge Company shall have the power
to construct a railroad of not more than one quarter
of a mile in length, to connect such furnaces as may
be erected on the said land, with the railroad of the

Proviso.

Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company, Provided,
that the said railroad is constructed upon the lands
