CHAPTER 36.
|

AN ACT allowing compensation to the auditor of
the City of Baltimore, for collecting taxes due and
in arrears to the State of Maryland.
|

27, 1856.

|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the auditor of the city of
Baltimore, be allowed a commission of one per cent.,
on all sums of money heretofore collected by him,
and paid to the Treasurer of the State; and that the
said auditor be allowed the same compensation for
all sums of money received by him, for taxes now
due, and paid to the Treasurer of the State.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from its passage.

AN ACT for the relief of Arnold Pitts a free man
of color, now in the State of New York.
|
Passed Feb.
27, 1856.
|
|
|
WHEREAS, It has been represented to this General
Assembly, That Arnold Pitts a free man of color,
now in the State of New York, temporarily left
his residence in Worcester county, in this State,
some time during the past year, having first
obtained from the Orphan's court of said county,
a permit to do so, provided he returned on or
before the tenth day of October last; and whereas,
It is further represented, that the said Arnold Pitts
was prevented by circumstances beyond his con-
trol, from returning to this State within the time
limited, but was detained for seventeen days after
the time had elapsed, and is therefore prohibited
from returning to, or visiting this State, for the
purpose of seeing his wife and children, who are
slaves residing in said last mentioned county,
