of the correctness of such reports respectively; they,
the said treasurer and comptroller, shall be and they
are hereby authorised and directed to give a full re-
lease to each of said parties so complying with the
provisions of this act for all claims of the State against
him on account of direct taxes placed in his hands

for collection; Provided, the party applying for such
release, shall have paid over to the treasurer the
whole balance of said direct taxes placed in his hands
respectively for. collection, with all the interest re-
ceived thereon over and above the amounts legally
allowed for insolvencies and erroneous assessments.

Proviso.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That nothing con-
tained in the provisions of this act shall operate or
be construed to release or abate any charge or char-
ges for interest on the direct taxes levied by the
county authorities of Baltimore county, for the year
eighteen hundred and fifty-four; nor shall the provi-
sions of this act interfere with any judgment or suit
pending against the persons hereinbefore named.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 300.

In force.

AN ACT further supplemental to the act of Decem-
ber session eighteen hundred and twenty seven,
chapter one hundred and eleven, entitled, an act to
regulate sales by public auction.

10, 1856.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That it shall he lawful for any of
the persons appointed by the Governor as auctioneers
in the city of Baltimore, who shall first enter into the
recognizance and pay the license fee required by the
fourth section of the act of December session eighteen
hundred and thirty one, chapter two hundred and
sixty one, to make sales of every description of goods,
merchandise, and wires of every kind, also real es-
tate, and to exercise all the rights and privileges of a
general auctioneer as fully and unrestrictedly as any
