CHAPTER 299.

Passed Mar.
10, 1856.

AN ACT requiring Joshua H. Hynes, Samuel P.
Storm, and Pleasant Hunter, late Sheriffs of Bal-
timore county, to make statements to the Comp-
troller of the amount of State taxes due from them
and to pay the same into the treasury at such times
and on such conditions as are herein provided.

the treasurer.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of

Maryland, That Joshua H. Hynes, Samuel P. Storm
and Pleasant Hunter, late sheriff's of Baltimore
county, and collectors of State taxes therein, shall
be and they are hereby authorised to account with
the treasurer of Maryland for the balance of the
State direct taxes placed in their hands for collec-
tion and now unpaid to the treasury, in the manner
following to wit: the said Hynes, Storm and Hunter,
each of them shall on or before the first day of May
next make a report in writing to the said treasurer of
all direct taxes collected by each of them, and also
the amount of interest received by each of them on
the amount collected to the date of such report, which
shall be verified by the affidavit of each of said par-
ties, and within five days after making such report,
said Hynes, Storm and Hunter, each of them shall
pay to said treasurer the full amount of interest re-
ceived by each of them, and one-fourth of the bal-
ance of said taxes placed in their hands for collec-
tion and unpaid to said treasurer.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That said Hynes,
Storm and Hunter, shall be and they are hereby re-
quired to pay to the said treasurer of Maryland the
balance of the direct taxes and interest by them re-
spectively received in three equal instalments on or
before the first day of July, September and January
next; each of said parties at the time of such pay-
ment making a report under oath to said treasurer,
showing the whole amount of the balance of such
taxes and interest up to that time received by them
and in arrears as aforesaid.

To be released.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted That upon the faith-
ful compliance by said Hynes, Storm and Hunter or
either of them, with the foregoing provisions of this
act, by making each of their reports and payments
therein provided for at the time fixed for the same,
and on the treasurer and comptroller being satisfied
