SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from and after the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 290.

10, 1856.

AN ACT to incorporate the St. Martin's Inlet and
Navigation Company.

Incorporated.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That a company be incorporated to
wharf or dam Synepuxent Bay in Worcester county,
at or near the Haw Hammocks a point of land on said
bay, and thereby cut an inlet above said dam, to be
known and styled a? the St. Martin's Inlet and Nav-
igation Company.

Books to be
opened.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That subscription books
shall be opened under the direction of William P.
Harper, Litleton R. Bishop, John Hamblin, James
Whaley, Lemuel Showell, Junior, and James F. Bra-
vard, for a capital stock of twenty thousand dollars in
shares of twenty dollars each, who are hereby ap-
pointed commissioners for the purpose aforesaid, who
after public notice of at least twenty days of the
time and place of opening said subscription books ;
and if the whole of the capital stock be not then sub-
scribed for, the said commissioners may reopen said
books at such time and place as they may think fit
under the direction of the said commissioners, or a
majority of them for further subscriptions from time
to time, until the whole of said stock shall be sub-
scribed for.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That when one-half or
more of the shares of said stock shall have been
subscribed, the said commissioners, or a majority of
them who opened the said subscription books, shall
give thirty days public notice of the time and place
appointed by them for the subscribers to meet in or-
der to organize said company, and to choose by a ma-
jority of votes of the said subscribers by ballot to be de-
livered in person or by proxy, duly authorized, directors
from among the stockholders to conduct the business
of said company until their successors shall be chosen
