ment of the claim of Moor N. Falls, President of the
steamboat company for services rendered by him as
president of said company, against certain persons
violating the laws of this State by unlawfully catch-
ing and taking oysters therein; and that the Treasur-
er upon the warrant of the Comptroller is hereby au-
thorised and required to pay the same.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 284.

1 In force.

AN ACT to cede to the United States the jurisdiction
of the State of Maryland, in, to and over a part of
Hog Island in the Potomac river

Passed Mar.
10, 1856.

WHEREAS, it is in the contemplation of the proper
authorities of the United States to erect a Light
house on Hog Island in the Potomac river for the
greater security of the Navigation of said river;
whenever a legal title to the said island or so much
thereof as may be necessary for the purpose can
be obtained, and whereas, jurisdiction over the
said island is claimed both by the State of Mary-
sand and the State of Virginia, and it is desirable
that the right of jurisdiction as well as the right
and title of each of the said States, in, to and over
the site of said Light house, should be transferred
to the United States.

Preamble.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the right of jurisdiction, and all the right,
title and interest of the State of Maryland, in and
over a site for a Light house on Hog Island in the
Potomac river aforesaid; in and to the same is here-
by relinquished, ceded and made over to the United

States aforesaid, for the purposes aforesaid; Provi-
ded, the quantity of land for said site does not exceed
ten acres.
