otherwise, and for keeping and boarding any runaway
negro, or negro slave committed to the jails of said coun-
ties by any citizen of this State, the sum of forty cents
per day in lieu of the sum now allowed, to be levied and
collected according to law.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 27.
AN ACT to refund to James Sparks of Queen Ann's
county a sum of money therein named.

WHEREAS James Sparks of Queen Ann's county, paid
to John Palmer, clerk of Queen Ann's county Circuit
Court, the sum of twelve dollars, for a trader's license,
he deriving no benefit from the same; which sum was
paid to the Treasurer by the said clerk; Therefore,

Preamble.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Treasurer is hereby authorised and
directed to refund and pay upon the warrant of the
Comptroller to James Sparks, or his order, the sum of
twelve dollars being the amount paid for a trader's li-
cense, to the clerk of Queen Ann's county Circuit
Court.
