the respective counties, as aforesaid.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from and after the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 205.

AN ACT entitled, an act to appoint an additional
magistrate in Jackson district, Frederick county...

Preamble.

WHEREAS, by a petition from sundry citizens of
Jackson district, in Frederick county, it has been
represented to this Legislature, that the wants and
interests of the people of said district require an
additional magistrate; therefore,

magistrate to
be elected.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That an additional magistrate be
and he is hereby granted to said district, who when
elected shall have full power to discharge all the du-
ties, have all the rights, and be subject to the same
responsibilities of any magistrate or magistrates now
in existence in said district.

Term of of-
fice.

SEC. 2. Be it enacted, That an election for said
magistrate shall be held on the first day of May,
eighteen hundred and fifty-six; and the person then
elected shall hold the office up to the time of the ex-
piration of the term of service of the magistrates al-
ready elected, but at every election for magistrates
thereafter it shall be lawful for the voters of said dis-
trict to elect three magistrates.

Sheriff to give
notice.

SEC. 3. Be it enacted, That the sheriff of Frede-
rick county shall give to the voters of said district at
least twenty days notice of such an election, and the
time and place of holding the same; and the commis-
sioners of said county shall appoint three of the voters
of said district to act as judges of said election, whose
return shall be as in all cases of elections for magis-
trates provided by law; and it shall be the duty of
the Governor of the State, upon a certified return of
the Clerk of the Circuit Court of the county of such
