LAWS OF MARYLAND.

eighteen hundred and thirty-nine, to the first day of
December, eighteen hundred and fifty-five, and of
the personal records for the same length of time ;
which was left incompleted by his predecessors.

Authorised to
levy.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the county com-
missioners of Prince George's county shall levy on
the assessable property of said county for such sum
of money as, in their discretion, will be sufficient
to compensate said clerk for the faithful performance
of the work herein directed to be done by him.

Duty of Clerk
to keep up the
record.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That after the comple-
tion of the work aforesaid, it shall be the duty of the
said clerk, and of his successors, to keep up and con-
tinue the record of indices in the manner and form
as prescribed by law.

To report to
county com-
missioners.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That it shall be the
duty of the said clerk, and of his successors, annu-
ally, at their April term, to report to the county com-
missioners of said county, the precise condition of
the indices in his office, of both land and personal
deeds recorded; and that on failure of the clerk to
report as aforesaid, he shall forfeit and pay the sum
of one hundred dollars to be recovered and collected
as other fines and forfeitures are now recoverable by
law, to be paid over to the said commissioners, to be
by them applied to the use of the school fund of said
county.

In force.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from and after its passage.

AN ACT to appropriate a sum of money to pay
George W. Dowell, late Sheriff of Calvert County,
for certain fees due him by the State.

Treasurer to
pay.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the Treasurer, upon the warrant
of the Comptroller, be and he is hereby authorized and
directed, to pay to the order of George W. Dowell,
late Sheriff of Calvert, the sum of twenty-one dollars
and twenty-five cents, being the amount of certain
