LAWS OF MARYLAND.

Public notice
to be given.

SEC. 9. And be it enacted, That the school com-
missioners for said county shall give public notice to
the owners of real and personal property subject to
taxation on said Island, residing in Queen Anne's
county, by advertisement in one or more of the news-
papers printed in said county, of the time and place
of holding the first meeting for the election of Trus-
tees, at least three weeks previous thereto.

To fill vacan-
cies.

SEC. 10. And be it enacted, That said Trustees
shall hold their places for one year from the time of
their election and until successors to be elected at
an annual meeting shall qualify, and in case of a va-
cancy occurring in the board during the said time,
the remaining Trustees shall fill such vacancy.

Shall qualify.

SEC. 11. And be it enacted, That before any per-
son elected as Trustee for said primary school shall
proceed to act as such, he shall make oath before
some justice of the peace of said county, that he will
well and faithfully discharge the duties imposed by
this act to the best of his ability.

In force.

SEC. 12. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from and after its passage.

AN ACT to amend an act entitled, an act to author-
ise the appointment of Commissioners to take the
acknowledgements of deeds and instruments of
writing under seal, out of the State of Maryland,
passed at December session, eighteen hundred
and thirty-seven, chapter ninety-seven.

pointed.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the Governor, by and with
the advice and consent of the Senate, shall have the
power to appoint one or more commissioners in Eng-
land, or any other foreign country, who shall con-
tinue in office during the pleasure of the Governor,
and shall have authority to take the acknowledge-
ments and proof of the execution of any deed or
other conveyance, or lease of any lands lying in this
