and fifty-three, entitled a supplement to the act enti-
tled an act taxing certain officers, passed at Decem-
ber session, eighteen hundred and forty-four, chapter
three hundred and two.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

AN ACT amendatory of the act entitled, " An Act
to incorporate the Lonaconing Ocean Coal Mining
and Transportation Company," passed January
session, eighteen hundred and fifty-three, chapter
one hundred and ninety-two, changing the name
of the said corporation.

Hereafter to
be known as
the "Ocean
Steam Coal
Company."

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the persons, namely: William
H. Aspinwall, Edward Cunard, Auguste Belmont,
Joseph B. Varnum, Jonathan Meredith, Edward J.
Wolsey and James L. Graham, and the other persons
who were to be thereafter associated with them, who
were constituted a body politic and corporate, by the
name of the Lonaconing Ocean Coal Mining and
Transportation Company, by the act entitled, "An
Act to incorporate the Lonaconing Ocean Coal Mi-
ning and Transportation Company," passed January
session, eighteen hundred and fifty-three, chapter
one hundred and ninety-two, shall be hereafter known
as such body politic and corporate, by the name of
"Ocean Steam Coal Company;" and that so much
of the act aforesaid, designating the said body poli-
tic and corporate by the aforesaid name of "Laco-
ning Ocean Coal Mining and Transportation Com-

pany," be and the same is hereby repealed: Provi-
ded, this act shall not affect suits pending, or obli-
gations or contracts to which the said body politic
and corporate may be a party in its said original
name; but that such suits, obligations or contracts
shall stand, and be of the same virtue and effect in
