CHAPTER 18.
|
|
|
|
AN ACT to denominate the town of Cumberland a city,
and to change and provide an alternative for the name
of the corporate body thereof.
|

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the town called and known by the
name of Cumberland, or town of Cumberland, in Alle-
gany county, be henceforth denominated City of Cum-
berland, and that the corporate body of said town now
called by the name of Mayor and Councilmen of the
town of Cumberland be henceforth called by the name
of Mayor and Councilmen of the city of Cumberland,
which last name may be and is hereby abbreviated into
the name "City of Cumberland;" to be used at pleasure
as an alternative name for said corporate body.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That in all suits
at law or equity, in all engagements or obligations of
every kind, and in all other transactions or proceedings
whatsoever to which the said corporate body may at any
time become or be made a party, or wherein reference
may be made to the said corporate body, the use of the
said abbreviated name "City of Cumberland," shall be
understood to mean and designate the said corporate bo-
dy as fully and effectually as the aforesaid name of May-
or and Councilmen of the city of Cumberland.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this act
shall take effect from and after the day it may be pass-
ed.
