CHAPTER 545
(House Bill 844)

AN ACT to add Sections 202 (e) and 202 (f) to Article 56 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition), title "Licenses",
sub-title "Dog Licenses in the Counties", to follow immediately
after Section 202 (d) thereof, relating to the taking and disposal
of dogs running at large in Allegany County and authorizing and
empowering the Board of County Commissioners of Allegany
County to provide for a humane officer or officers in said county
and the custody and destruction of dogs found running at large,
and also providing for the sale and issue of dog licenses within said
county by the County Treasurer and any humane officer or officers
appointed hereunder.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 202 (e) and 202 (f) be and they are hereby added to
Article 56 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition), title
"Licenses", sub-title "Dog Licenses in the Counties", to follow im-
mediately after Section 202 (d) thereof, and to read as follows:

202.

(e)   In Allegany County, dog licenses shall be sold by the County
Treasurer at the Court House. The County Treasurer is also au-
thorized and empowered in his discretion to provide for the sale and
issue of dog licenses by a humane officer or officers, as hereinafter
provided for, at such other place or places within said county, in-
cluding private business establishments, as he may in his discretion
deem wise. The County Treasurer shall keep a permanent account
of all sales of dog licenses in Allegany County, which said account
shall include the number of licenses sold, the persons to whom sold,
the full amount of the fees collected therefor, the name and address
of the owner of the dog so licensed and a brief description of each dog
so licensed.

(f)   The Board of County Commissioners of Allegany County are
hereby authorized and empowered to employ a humane officer or
officers at such salary as they may determine. The humane officer
or officers are hereby authorized and empowered to sell and issue dog
licenses, as hereinbefore provided, and to take into custody any dog
found running at large and unattended within the limits of Allegany
County. Every such animal found running at large within the limits
of said county shall be seized and detained by such humane officer or
officers in a suitable place to be provided by the said Board of County
Commissioners. If any such dog has upon its neck a collar containing
the name and address of the owner, the humane officers shall notify
the owner within 24 hours after said seizure; if the owner's name
and address are not upon the dog's collar, but if such dog has upon
its neck the number of the legally required license for the then cur-
