7. Women as jurors. Hereafter no person shall be disqualified
for service as a juror in this State by reason of sex, but the pro-
visions of law relating to the qualifications of jurors and exemption
from jury duty shall in all cases apply to women as well as men,
and the lists from which jurors are drawn shall include the names
of men and women. The provisions of this section shall not apply
to Calvert, Carroll, Garrett, Howard and St. Mary's [and Kent]
counties. In Worcester and in Charles counties jury duty for women
shall be optional; and any woman whose name is drawn for jury
duty shall be excused therefrom upon her request, provided her said
request is filed in writing with the clerk of the circuit court within
ten days of the date she is officially notified of her selection.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1955.

(Senate Bill 180)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 40 (k)
(7) of Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edi-
tion), title "Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in fact", sub-title
"State's Attorney", providing generally for the expenses and for
the special fund allotment of the State's Attorney of Kent County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 40 (k) (7) of Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1951 Edition), title "Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in fact",
sub-title "State's Attorney", be and it is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

40 (k) (7). The State's Attorney of Kent County shall receive
[$600] $800 for the year [1949] 1955 and each year thereafter [.]
, for clerical hire; beginning for the year 1955 and for each year
thereafter he also shall receive $800.00 for rental expenses and gen-
eral office expenses; and beginning for the year 1955 and for each
year thereafter he also shall receive the sum of $2,000 as a special
fund to be applied to the costs of making investigations, and expendi-
tures from this allowance shall be accounted for to the Board of
County Commissioners at the end of each year with any balance
remaining at end of the fiscal year reverting to the general funds of
the county.'

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1955.
