CHAPTER 52
(Senate Bill 142)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 100
(Baltimore County) of Article 52 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1951 Edition), title "Justices of the Peace", sub-title "Trial
Magistrates System", and to repeal and re-enact, with amend-
ments, Section 111 (a) of said Article and sub-title, providing an
additional trial magistrate and an additional substitute magis-
trate for Baltimore County, specifying where the new magistrate
shall sit and specifying also the compensation of both the magis-
trate and the substitute magistrate.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 100 (Baltimore County) of Article 52 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1951 Edition), title "Justices of the Peace", sub-
title "Trial Magistrates System", and Section 111 (a) of said Article
and sub-title, be and they are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:

100. (Baltimore County). There shall be [fifteen] sixteen
Trial Magistrates, one of whom shall sit in Catonsville, one in
Cockeysville, one in Dundalk, one in Edgemere, one in Essex, one in
Fullerton, one in Halethorpe, one in Kingsville, one in Parkton, one
in Parkville,
one in Pikesville, one in Reisterstown, one in Sparrows
Point, one in Towson, one in Woodlawn, and one at a suitable location
on the Pulaski Highway.

The Baltimore County Trial Magistrates herein provided for shall
hold sessions of no less than three days in each week and such other
sessions as the duties of their office and public convenience may
require.

The Trial Magistrate at Towson shall receive an annual salary of
Three Thousand Dollars. The Trial Magistrates at Catonsville, Dun-
dalk, Essex, Fullerton, Halethorpe, Parkville and Pikesville shall
each receive annual salaries of Eighteen Hundred Dollars. The Trial
Magistrates at Cockeysville, Edgemere, Kingsville, Parkton, Reisters-
town, Sparrows Point, Woodlawn, and on the Pulaski Highway shall
each receive annual salaries of Twelve Hundred Dollars.

111. (Substitute Magistrates), (a) In addition to the Justices
of the Peace and Justices of the Peace at Large hereinbefore speci-
fied, the Governor, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate,
shall appoint one Justice of the Peace at Large for each county of
the State who shall be designated "Substitute Trial Magistrate."
Such magistrate shall post the bond required of Trial Magistrates
and shall receive a salary of $100.00 per year, except [the] there
shall be two
substitute magistrates appointed for Baltimore County,
[who] each of whom shall receive $1,000.00 per year in addition to
the compensation received when actually sitting as a substitute as
hereinafter provided, and except the substitute magistrate appointed
for Kent and Somerset Counties, who shall receive Five Hundred
