CHAPTER 306
(Senate Bill 457)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 30 of
Article 17 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition),
title "Clerks of Courts", sub-title "General Duties of Clerks",
relating to the salaries of the deputy and assistant CERTAIN
clerks of the Criminal Court of Baltimore City.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 30 of Article 17 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1951 Edition), title "Clerks of Courts", sub-title "General Duties
of Clerks", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, and to read as follows:

30. The Comptroller is hereby authorized and directed to approve
the inclusion in the annual returns required under Section 26 hereof,
of expenditures by Clerks of the Circuit Courts for the Counties and
the Clerks of the Courts of Baltimore City representing payment of
additional compensation to assistant clerks and deputies employed
in these offices of fifteen per centum (15%) of the regular compensa-
tion authorized for such assistant clerks and deputies, provided this
authority for additional compensation shall be limited to those
assistant clerks and deputies whose regular compensation does not
exceed Three Thousand Eight Hundred Dollars ($3,800.00) per
annum; the said payment of additional compensation to become
effective July 1, 1945, and to be added to the regular compensation
at the times of payment of such regular compensation. The addi-
tional compensation herein provided for shall apply to the Chief
Clerks of the offices of the Clerks of the Courts of Baltimore City,
for whose regular compensation appropriations are made in the State
Budget. Provided, however, that, commencing July 1, 1955, the
deputy and assistant clerks of the Criminal Court of Baltimore City
WHO ARE REGULARLY ASSIGNED TO SERVE IN THE
THREE PARTS OF THE SAID COURT shall be entitled to compen-
sation not in excess of $1,500 in addition to their existing annual
salary.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1955.
