1264 JOINT RESOLUTIONS
WHEREAS, A further effect has been to render the Patuxent River
and the Little Patuxent River, below fort George G. Meade, useless
as a source of water supply and utterly incapable of sustaining
marine life; and
WHEREAS, the Federal Housing Administration and the Veterans'
Administration have stated publicly that they will not insure loans
on housing in the fort Meade area which is not served by public
water and sewer facilities; and
WHEREAS, The present unsatisfactory condition and its proposed
future aggravation have been and will be caused entirely by the De-
partment of Defense which alone can provide the remedy, which
remedy is the construction of a regulating reservoir with sufficient
capacity to permit the withdrawal of water from the river without
affecting detrimentally its dry weather flow and the installation of
additional facilities in the two sewage treatment plants making the
effluent substantially as good as the water previously abstracted
from the stream; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the Congress
of the United States be, and it is hereby, earnestly requested to
appropriate an amount of money sufficient to enable the Department
of Defense to remedy the dangerous and unsanitary condition it has
created in the fort Meade area by the construction of the aforesaid
regulating reservoir and the installation of the sewage treatment
facilities mentioned herein; and be it further
Resolved, That the Secretary of State be, and he is hereby directed
to send, under the Great Seal of the State, a copy of this Resolution
to the President of the Senate, to the Speaker of the House of
Representatives, and to each member from Maryland in the Senate
and House of Representatives, urging them to use their utmost
endeavors to persuade the Congress to grant the relief requested in
this Resolution.

upon the attainment of recent honors.
WHEREAS, The members of the General Assembly of Maryland have
learned with pleasure and gratification that on March 4,1955, a signal
honor came to the Honorable Russell H. McCain, Chairman of the
State Roads Commission of Maryland; and
