346                               JOINT RESOLUTIONS

No. 11

(Senate Joint Resolution 21)

Senate Joint Resolution congratulating and commending the citizens
and the officials of Charles County upon the 300th Anniversary
of the establishment of this great old Maryland County.

The members of the General Assembly of Maryland are pleased
and proud to salute their friends and neighbors in Charles County
upon the successful completion of 300 years of civic and political
life.

It was in the year 1658 that Charles County was first set up, this
being less than a quarter of a century after the original Maryland
colonists settled here. The colony had grown and prospered and
Charles County was one of the early separate political units to be
formed.

The age of the county is abundant testimony to the antiquity of
our institutions. The constant growth and development of the
county attest to its modern and progressive outlook.

During the year 1958 the 300th Anniversary would be observed
by a variety of community events. There will be a "Birthday
Party" in May and other events are scheduled progressively during
the months of the Summer and early Fall.

Charles County has been part and parcel of 300 years of honorable
development and progress in the art of free government in Mary-
land. The County and the State are actual and visual evidence and
proof of man's ability to govern himself with dignity and restraint.

The members of the General Assembly of Maryland congratulate
and commend the good citizens of Charles County for their constant
cooperation and leadership in promoting the free institutions and the
democratic development of Charles County and the entire State of
Maryland; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the sincere
good wishes and hearty congratulations of this Body be expressed
to the citizens and officials of Charles County as the County cele-
brates the 300th Anniversary of its founding; and be it further

Resolved, That the Secretary of State of Maryland be directed to
send a copy of this Resolution under the Great Seal of the State of
Maryland to the Board of County Commissioners of Charles County.

Approved March 13, 1958.
