342                               JOINT RESOLUTIONS

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the recom-
mendations of the Legislative Council's Special Committee on the
Custody of Minors are hereby adopted, and be it further

Resolved, That the Chairman of the Legislative Council reappoint
the Special Committee for 1958.

Approved March 6, 1958.

No. 7
(Senate Joint Resolution 7)

Joint Resolution urging the Congress of the United States to request
the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers to finalize its plans for im-
poundment of water for the Washington Metropolitan Area.

WHEREAS, The Special Committee on the Potomac River of the
Maryland Legislative Council in its study of the Potomac River and
its many problems has been cognizant of the special needs of the
Washington Metropolitan Area, one of which is the urgent necessity
for water supply for the area, and

WHEREAS, In discussing possible solutions for this and other
problems affecting Washington, the Committee reported: "Therefore,
the solution would seem to lie in impoundment of water. Whether
River Bend should be built, and where, or what kind of a dam or
dams should be built, are problems best resolved by the Corps of
Engineers. Delay in presenting to the public a program for impound-
ment has only increased the problems in the Washington area. This
Committee feels that further delay will compound the present in-
adequate situation", and

WHEREAS, The Committee in its recommendations, reported the
following:

"That Congress be urged to request the U. S. Army Corps of
Engineers to finalize their plans for storage of water for the Wash-
ington Metropolitan area, so that the location of a storage structures
and its reservoirs can be determined. The land necessary for the
structures and the reservoirs should be acquired so that orderly de-
velopment in the area affected may proceed without later interrup-
tion.", now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the Congress
of the United States be urged to request the U. S. Army Corps of
Engineers to finalize their plans for impoundment of water for the
Washington Metropolitan Area so that the IF ANY land IS required
for any structures and its reservoirS IT may be acquired, and be it
further

Resolved, That the Delegation from Maryland in the Congress of
the United States be urged to implement this Resolution.

Approved March 6, 1958.
