(Senate Joint Resolution 9)
Joint Resolution urging the Interstate Commission on the Potomac
River Basin to develop certain plans for abatement of interstate
pollution on the Potomac River, and urging reappointment of the
Special Committee on the Potomac River.
WHEREAS, As a part of its study of the problems of the Potomac
River, the Legislative Council's Special Committee on the Potomac
River has noted

pollution in Allegany,
Charles and Prince George's Counties, which appears to be of an
interstate character, and
WHEREAS, In its Report the Committee observed the presence of
conflicting jurisdictions, state and federal, in the solution of the
problem of pollution on the River, and the Committee urged that the
cooperation of these jurisdictions be achieved through establishment
of a master plan to provide the means of abating pollution and the
method of financing such abatement plans, and
WHEREAS, The Committee also adopted a recommendation that
further study of the Potomac River and its problems was necessary
and requested continuance of the Special Committee, now, therefore,
be it
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the Inter-
state Commission on the Potomac River Basin be requested through
studies to explore means to alleviate or control pollution, especially
from sewage, on the Potomac River in the vicinity of the District of
Columbia, and Prince George's and Charles Counties and to prepare
therefrom a master plan for the abatement of interstate pollution,
together with plans to finance the proposed abatement of pollution,
and to report such plans to the Legislative Council prior to the 1959
Session of the General Assembly, and be it further
Resolved, That the Special Committee on the Potomac River be
reappointed for 1958 by the Legislative Council.
