[ (3) Upon receipt of an application in proper form for the regis-
tration of semi-trailers operated under the shuttle or relay system, it
shall be the duty of the Department, after due investigation, to issue
additional registration plates, not exceeding one additional for each
two truck tractors registered by the owner without extra cost and the
fee for any adidtional trailers other than those hereinabove specified
but not exceeding one for each two truck tractors shall be one-half the
regular registration fee.]

(4)   The Department shall pay to the county or Baltimore City in
which the owner of a Class G motor vehicle resides, the following
sums for such vehicles as per chassis weight or number of axles as
shown above:

Less than 300 ...................................................... $2.00

301 to 500 ............................................................ 2.00

501 to 1,000 .......................................................... 8.00

[1,001 to 2,500] .................................................. [15.00]

[2,501 to 3,500] .................................................. [25.00]

[Over 3,501] .................................................. [30.00]

Over 1,000

Single Axle .............................................. 20.00

Two or more Axles.................................. 25.00

and the sum of thirty-five ($35.00) dollars for each semi-dump trailer
service registration [, and provided further, that any thing herein to
the contrary notwithstanding, applications may be made and shall be
accepted for such semi-dump trailer service registrations commencing

June 1, 1953, so that there shall be no deferment of the same].

(5)  If the owner of any such vehicles also resides within the cor-
porate limits of any municipality or special taxing area in a county,
such municipality or special taxing area shall be entitled to receive
from the county one-half (1/2) of the fee paid to the county for such
vehicle.

SEC. 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, THAT THIS ACT
IS HEREBY DECLARED TO BE AN EMERGENCY MEASURE
AND NECESSARY FOR THE IMMEDIATE PRESERVATION
OF THE PUBLIC HEALTH AND SAFETY, AND HAVING BEEN
PASSED BY A YEA AND NAY VOTE, SUPPORTED BY THREE-
FIFTHS OF ALL THE MEMBERS ELECTED TO EACH OF THE
TWO HOUSES OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND,
THE SAME SHALL TAKE EFFECT FROM THE DATE OF ITS
PASSAGE, AND SHALL REMAIN IN EFFECT UNTIL JUNE 1,
1959, UNLESS PREVIOUSLY THERETO AMENDED OR MODI-
FIED.
