the city lot about eighteen feet in width, owned by
James Wilson, for the purpose of the city buildings,
this law shall take effect, and said public alley shall
be opened, and not otherwise.

CHAPTER 41.

Passed Dec.
5, 1812.

An act to alter and change the name of Theodore
Gunby, of Somerset county, to that of Theodore
Gunby Dashiell.

He and his is-
sue may as-
sume the
name of Das-
hiell.

SEC. 1. BE IT ENACTED by the General As-
sembly of Maryland, That the name of Theodore
Gunby of Somerset county be, and is hereby altered
and changed unto the name of Theodore Gunby Da-
shiell, and it shall and may be lawful for the said
Theodore Gunby, at all times hereafter, to be called
and known by, and hold and use the name of Theo-
dore Gunby Dashiell, and by that name to sue and
be sued in any court of law or equity; and it shall
and may be lawful for the issue of the said Theo-
dore Gunby hereafter to be born, to take upon
themselves, and each of them the sur-name of Da-
shiell, instead of the sur-name of Gunby, and the sur-
name of the said Theodore Gunby shall be, and is
hereby altered and changed to the sur-name of Da-
shiell, and the issue of the said Theodore Gunby
hereafter to be born shall at all times hereafter be
called by, and hold and use the sur-name of Dashiell,
and be from henceforth called by the sur-name of
Dashiell.

All Securities
&c. heretofore
or hereafter to
be made or
done by or to
him or his is-
sue shall be
valid.

2. AND BE IT*ENACTED, That all securi-
ties, promises, contracts, gifts, devises, assurances,
deeds and lawful acts whatsoever heretofore made
or done, or hereafter to be made or done by or to the-
said Theodore Gunby, by the name of Theodore
Gunby Dashiell, or hereafter to be made or done by
or to the issue of the said Theodore Gunby hereafter
to be born by the sur name of Dashiell, shall be of
the same force and effect and equally avail, to all in-
tents and purposes, as if the name of Theodore Gun-
by Dashiell had been the true and proper name of the
said Theodore Gunby from his birth, any law, usage
or custom to the contrary notwithstanding.
