RESOLVED, That the Governor and Council be, and they are here-
by requested to enquire into the probable expense that would be requi-
site to carry into effect the method proposed by Neale H. Shaw in his
address to the Legislature for ascertaining the regular variation of the
magnetic needle, including the erection of the necessary structures, the
purchase of instruments, and the annual salary of a person competent
to make the observations; and also to select the place which in their
opinion would be the most proper for the object contemplated, and re-
port thereon to the next General Assembly.

volutionary War.

hereby directed and required, to pay to John B. Branson, late a soldier
in the revolutionary war, belonging to the Maryland line, or to his or-

pay of a private, as a provision to him in his indigent situation and ad-
vanced life, for those services by which his country has been so essen-
tially benefited.
