LAWS OF MARYLAND, Nov. SESS. 1812.

1812.

Stevenson, Peter Holland, John Dashiell, Senr.
M'Kimmey Porter, Robert I. H. Handy, George S.
Gunby, Charles Bennett, Junr. Boaz Walston,
George Hay ward, Eben Christopher, Robert Mitch-
ell, William Corbin and John Williams, be, and they
are hereby constituted trustees for the education of
youth in Worcester county; and the said trustees and
their successors, are hereby constituted a body poli-
tic and corporate, with perpetual succession by the
name and style of The Trustees of the Union Acade-
my; by which name and, title the said trustees
and their successors shall be capable in any court of
law or equity in this State, to sue or be sued, to de-
fend and be defended, to answer and be answered,
to hold property, real, personal and mixed, and the
same to use manage and employ in such manner as
they or a majority of them may deem most beneficial
to carry into effect the purposes of their institution;
and by the said name and style shall be capable in
law or equity, and before any judge or Justice within
this State or elsewhere; and in fine to do and perform
any act or acts which any corporation or body poli-
tic within this State in like cases may or can do and
perform; and the said trustees and their successors
are hereby authorised to have one common seal, and
the same to break alter and renew at pleasure.

Vacancies.

2. AND BE IT ENACTED, That whenever
any of the said trustees shall die, resign or refuse to
act or qualify, or remove from the county, or shall
neglect to attend the annual meetings of the said
board for three years successively, the remaining
trustees or a majority of them, at their stated annual
meetings, shall elect by ballot, a person or persons to
fill such vacancy or vacancies from the same elec-
tion district; and every vacancy shall be filled where
the person occasioning such vacancy resided when
first constituted a trustee; and all future vacancies
shall be filled in like manner by the said trustees and
their successors so as aforesaid, to preserve the full
number of thirty members.

Meetings —
by-laws, &c.

3. AND BE IT ENACTED, That there shall
be an annual stated meeting of the said trustees on
the first Wednesday of September next, and on the
same day in every year thereafter, and at such other
time or times in each and every year as the said
trustees or a majority of them may appoint; and the
said trustees are hereby authorised and empowered
to make all such by-laws rules and ordinances as
they or a majority of them may deem necessary and
