and for filling up lots and for establishing corners of
lots, shall be a lien upon the property chargeable with
the same under the provisions of this act.

1812.

12. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the commis-
sioners are authorised and empowered to employ a
proper person or persons for the purpose of sweep-
ing the chimnies in said precincts, under such regu-
lations as they may think proper; and if any person
will not suffer his, her or their chimney to be swept
once in every two months, and the same afterwards
takes fire, on conviction thereof, shall pay a fine not
exceeding1 ten dollars, to be recovered by the commis-
sioners before any justice of the peace.

13. AND BE IT ENACTED, That all forfeit-
urs and fines received and collected under this act,
shall be appropriated to the defraying of all. expenses
incurred by the commissioners for record books,
stationary and other incidental expenses.

CHAPTER 125.

Fines and for-
feitures.

An act to authorise a lottery to raise a sum of money
for the purpose of completing the Lutheran Church
in Middle-Town, in Frederick county.

SEC. 1. BE IT ENACTED by the, General As-
sembly of Maryland, That it shall and may be lawful
for Conrad Young, Adam Lawrence, Henry Shoe-
maker, Richard Templin, Henry Coller, Daniel
Routsawn, Adam Herring and Michael Motter, or a
majority of them, to propose a scheme or schemes of
a lottery for raising a sum of money not exceeding
three thousand dollars, clear of all expenses, and sell
and dispose of the tickets in said lottery, and to draw

the same: Provided, That the said Conrad Young,
Adam Lawrence, Henry Shoemaker, Richard Temp-
lin, Henry Coller, Daniel Routsawn, Adam Herring
and Michael Motter, or a majority of them that un-
dertake to act under this law, shall before the sale or
disposal of any ticket or tickets in said lottery, give
their bond to the State of Maryland, in the penalty of
six thousand dollars, conditioned that they will well
and truly apply so much money arising therefrom
within twelve months after the drawing of said lot-
tery shall be completed, as will satisfy the fortunate
adventurers for 'prizes drawn by them; and after de-
ducting. the necessary expenses -incurred in said lot-
tery, shall within eighteen months after the drawing of
said lottery shall be completed, apply the money rais-
