the association hereinbefore expressed; and shall ordain
and establish such by-laws and regulations, not contrary
to the laws of this State, or this act, as shall be necessa-
ry or convenient for conducting the affairs of the cor-
poration.

Right of
membership.
|
SEC. 2, And be it enacted, That any person may
become a member of the association, by signing his
name in a book to be kept for enrolling the names of
its members, paying an admission fee of one dollar,
and such yearly contribution as the association may
|

|
Proviso.
|
levy; Provided, that the association may by by-laws,
change the mode of membership.
|
|
|
Officers.
|
SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the officers of the
association shall be a President, eleven Vice Presidents,
a Corresponding Secretary, a Recording Secretary, a
Treasurer, an executive committee, consisting of twelve
members, and a board of managers of five members of
the association, and that the persons named in the first
section of this act, now holding corresponding officers
in said society, called the Agricultural and Mechanical
Association of Washington county, shall be the officers
of the corporation created by this act, until the first
Saturday of January, in the year eighteen hundred and
fifty-five, at which time, and annually thereafter, the
said offices shall be filled by election from among the
members of the association, and notice of the time and
place of every such election shall be given in one or
more newspapers published in Washington county, at
least three weeks prior to such election, and at every
such election, each member of the association shall be
entitled to one vote in the election of each and every
officer.

By-laws.
|
SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the persons named
in the first section of this act, shall immediately after
the passage of this act, prepare such by-laws or regula-
tions as they may deem necessary or convenient for
conducting the affairs of the corporation, to be submitted
to the members of the association for adoption, at a
meeting thereof to be called by the President of the as-
sociation at as early a day as practicable, not exceeding
three months from the date of the passage of this act,
and the same notice of the time and place of such meet-
ing shall be given, as is provided in the second section
of this act, for the annual election of officers of the as-
sociation, and in such by-laws shall be prescribed the
powers, duties, and responsibilities of the several officers
of the association, and the mode in which vacancies
occurring in any of the offices of the association shall
be filled, and at any general meeting of the association
