in trust for the benefit of the inhabitants of Elktown
find Cecil county, for the purpose of constructing a

court house and other public buildings thereon, for
the use of the citizens of said town and county, and
whereas, a court house, with a row of offices and a
prison or jail have long since been constructed upon
said public lot, and the public interest and conve-
nience appear to require, the exchange of a small
part of said public lot for a larger part of a certain
other lot adjoining it on the east; and whereas, all
the original trustees to whom the said indenture was
made have long since departed this life, and it is now
impracticable to ascertain the names and residence of
their several and respective heirs; Therefore,

Purposes.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That from and after the passage of this
act, the county commissioners of Cecil county and their
successors in office for ever, shall stand seized of all
and every part of the said public lot, in the town of
Elkton, and the buildings now thereon erected, in trust
for the use and benefit of the citizens of the said town
and Cecil county, for the purpose of keeping thereon
erected a court bouse and necessary offices and a prison
or jail, and such other public buildings as the adminis-
tration of justice in the said county may require.

sioners.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the county com-
missioners of Cecil county be and they are hereby au-
thorised and empowered, in their discretion, to exchange
with the owner or owners of the lot adjoining the said
public lot on the east so much of the said public lot as
they may deem proper for so much of the said adjoin-
ing lot as they may find necessary for the public use,
and to unite with the president and commissioners of
the town of Elkton in conveying and assuring to the
owner or owners of the said adjoining lot a good and
sufficient title to so much of the said public lot as they
shall determine to give in exchange, and also to take
and receive from the owner or owners of the said ad-
joining lot to them and their successors, as county com-
missioners of Cecil county, a conveyance of so much
of the said adjoining lot as they shall agree to receive
in exchange, to have and to hold the same in trust for
the use and benefit of the citizens of said town and
county, as a garden lot and stable yard for the jail, or
for the construction of such other public buildings there-
on as the interest or convenience of the citizens of the
county may require.
