of said corporation, the act of eighteen hundred and
thirty-one, chapter one hundred and seven, conferring
additional powers, duties and authority upon said cor-
poration, the act of eighteen hundred and thirty-three,
chapter two hundred and twenty-two, conferring the
power on the commissioners of said town to elect a
burgess in case of a vacancy in said office, the act of
eighteen hundred and thirty-eight, chapter one hun-
dred and fifty-five, conferring further powers on said
commissioners in case of said vacancy, and the act of
eighteen hundred and forty-three, chapter two hun-
dred and seventy, authorising the citizens of said town
to elect a burgess and six commissioners, and prescrib-
ing their powers, be and the same are hereby repealed.

SEC. 20. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from the day of its passage.

CHAPTER 283.

In force.

AN ACT to enlarge the powers of the commissioners
of the town of East Newmarket, in relation to restrict-
ing the sate of intoxicating liquors within the limits
of said town.

Mar. 10, 1854.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That it shall not he lawful for the clerk
of the circuit court of Dorchester county to grant to any
applicant or applicants a license to retail any spirituous,
distilled or malt liquors within the limits of the town of
East Newmarket, unless the said applicant or appli-
cants shall exhibit to the said clerk of the said court the
recommendation of a majority of the commissioners of
the said town, obtained from the said commissioners in
town meeting assembled, with the attestation of the
clerk of the said commissioners.
