CHAPTER 26.

Passed
Mar. 1, 1854.

AN ACT to provide for carrying into effect the third
section of the tenth Article of the Constitution, which
relates to Candidates having the highest and an equal
number of Votes.

Governor to
issue warrant
for new elec-

tion.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That in the cases comprehended in the
third section of the tenth article of the constitution,
whenever any two or more candidates shall have re-
ceived the highest and an equal number of voles, the
Governor shall be, and he is hereby authorised and re-
quired to issue a warrant for a new election, in such
cases of which election, not less than ten days notice
shall be given, exclusive of the day of the publication
of the notice and of the day of election.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from its passage.

CHAPTER 27.

Passed
Mar. 1, 1854.

AN ACT appropriating a sum of money therein men-
tioned, to repay to Messrs. Baring, Brothers and Com-
pany, money advanced by them on account of the
State of Maryland.

Authority to
pay.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the Treasurer of the State of Mary-
land is hereby authorised to pay on the warrant of the
Comptroller, to Messrs. Baring, Brothers and Company,
the sum of seven hundred and forty-three pounds, eight
shillings and three pence, being the amount advanced
by them to pay interest on the bonds of the State of
Maryland beyond the amount provided by the State, and
that the sum of three thousand six hundred and seventy
dollars and eighty-one cents, or so much thereof as may
be necessary, be and the same is hereby appropriated,
for that purpose.

In force.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from its passage.
