tribution, shall divide and distribute the same pro rata
amongst the persons, and bodies corporate, or politic,
entitled to receive the same.

CHAP. 114.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That such contractor or
contractors, shall give bond to the State of Maryland,

in a penalty, and with security, approved by the lottery
commissioner, treasurer and comptroller, conditioned
for the faithful performance of the contract in all re-
spects, and particularly for the payment, at the time
specified, of each instalment to be paid as aforesaid, on
account of the State, or for distribution, and shall also
give bond; in a penalty and with security approved as
aforesaid, for the payment of all prizes in lotteries
drawn in pursuance of said contract.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That in addition to the
clerk now authorised by law, the commissioner of lot-
leries may, if it shall be deemed necessary by the con-
tractor or contractors, employ another clerk, who shall
take the oath prescribed by law for the clerk of the lot-
tery commissioner, and shall receive an annual salary

of five hundred dollars, to be paid by the contractor or
contractors, and in no other mode, and either of said
clerks may be authorised by the commissioner of lot-
teries to draw lotteries in case of the sickness or tempor-
ary absence of said commissioner.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 114.

In force.

An ACT for the Relief of James Thompson, of
Dorchester county, security of John Baker, free
negro of said county.

7, 1852.

WHEREAS, It appears from the petition of John Baker,
free colored man of Dorchester county, that a certain
negro man, slave for a term of years, named Thomas
Cephas, owned by the said John Baker, was convicted
for crime at the last October term of Dorchester county
court, and sold out of the State by the late sheriff of
said county, pursuant, to the judgment of said court,
according to the Act of December session, eighteen
hundred and forty-five, chapter three hundred and forty,
for the sum of two hundred and fifty dollars; And
whereas, the said petitioner prays that the said sum,
