teen hundred and forty-seven, for the sum of one hun-
dred dollars; and also a certificate under and by autho-
rity of the act of eighteen hundred and thirty-nine,
chapter twenty, numbered five thousand six hundred
and seventy-eight, dated the twenty-first of May, eigh-
teen hundred and forty-seven, for the sum of seven
hundred dollars; and also six several certificates in vir-
tue of the act of eighteen hundred and forty-six, chap-
ter two hundred and thirty-eight, numbered, dated and
for the following amounts, viz: number six thousand
five hundred and four, dated the second of June, eigh-
teen hundred and forty-eight, for one thousand dollars;
number six thousand seven hundred and ninety-seven,
dated the ninteenth of August, eighteen hundred and
forty-eight, for seven hundred dollars; number six
thousand nine hundred and sixty, dated the twelfth of
October, eighteen hundred and forty-eight, for one thou-
sand dollars; number six thousand nine hundred and
seventy-five, dated the eighteenth day of October, eigh-
teen hundred and forty-eight, for five hundred dollars ;
number seven thousand three hundred and seventy-eight,
dated the twenty-fifth of January, eighteen hundred
and forty nine, for nineteen hundred dollars; number
seven thousand five hundred and eighty-two, dated the
twenty-seventh of February, eighteen hundred and
forty-nine, for four hundred dollars, all of which pre-
viously recited certificates were issued, and on the day
of their respective dates delivered by the commissioner
of loans to a certain David Engel, of Carroll county,
in this State; And whereas, it is alleged by the said
David Engel, that the said several certificates of stock,
whilst in his possession, were lost by him in or about the
month of October, eighteen hundred and forty-nine,
and although a reward for the recovery of the same was
offered by him, by advertisement in a newspaper print-
ed in the city of Baltimore, immediately subsequent to
their loss; the same have not been recovered, and it is
right that the said evidences of debt should be renew-
ed to the said David Engel; Therefore,

CHAP. 9.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the commissioner of loans be, and
he is hereby authorised to issue to the said David Engel
new certificates of debt, shewing on their face that they
are duplicates of the said certificates alleged to be lost,
and corresponding, in amounts, with the said lost cer-
tificates respectively, which duplicate certificates shall
entitle the holder thereof to receive all arrears of inter-
