CHAP. 9.

of Maryland, two certificates of State Stock, one for one
thousand dollars, of six per cent, stock, issued under
the act of Assembly of eighteen hundred and thirty-
nine, chapter twenty, dated July the fifth, eighteen
hundred and fifty, and numbered nine thousand five
hundred and sixty-five, and the other for eight hundred
dollars, of five per cent, stock, issued under the act of
eighteen hundred and forty-seven, chapter forty-one,
dated August the twenty-eighth, eighteen hundred and
fifty, and numbered nine thousand six hundred and
seventy-one, and that said certificates were lost in the
month of October eighteen hundred and fifty, and have
not been recovered, although all proper efforts to re-
cover the same by advertisement and otherwise, have

been made by the said Myers Peirce — Therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly

of Maryland, That the commissioner of loans be, and
he is hereby authorised and directed, to issue to the said
Myers Peirce new certificates, showing on their face,
that they are duplicates of the said certificates alleged
to be lost, and corresponding in amount with said lost
certificates, which duplicate certificates, shall entitle
the holder thereof, to receive all arrears of interest un-

paid and now due on said lost certificates; Provided,
that the said commissioner of loans shall be satisfied
that said certificates were really lost, as alleged, and have
not since been recovered; and provided also, that the
said Myers Peirce shall give to the said commissioner

of loans, satisfactory security to indemnify the State

against any other claim or demand on account of the
said certificates alledged to be lost.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take

effect from and after the day of its passage.

CHAPTER 9.

AN ACT to authorise the Renewal of certain Certi-
ficates of Stock of the State of Maryland therein
mentioned.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, Under and by authority of the act of
eighteen hundred and thirty-eight, chapter three hun-
dred and eighty-six, a certificate of stock of the State of
Maryland, numbered five thousand six hundred and
seventy-two, beating date the fifteenth of May, eigh-
