to prevent any second allowance therefor.
SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That it shall be the
duty of the commissioners of the aforesaid county, to
levy upon the assessable property of said county the
abovementioned allowance, with the collector's com-
mission on the same, to be paid to the person presenting
such certificate by the collector aforesaid.

effect from and after the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 355.

AN ACT to enlarge the powers of the Mayor, Al-
dermen and Common Council of Frederick, so as
to authorise them to provide a Guard House.

31, 1852.

WHEREAS, It is represented to this General Assem-
bly, that the corporate authorities of Frederick, suffer
great inconvenience for the want of a guard house for
the temporary confinement, during the night, of dis-
turbers of the quiet of the town, other than the county
jail; And whereas, doubts exist whether the chartered
powers of said town are at present sufficient to enable
the corporate authorities to make the necessary provi-
sions in the premises; Therefore,

Preamble.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the mayor, aldermen and common council

of Frederick, be, and they are hereby authorised and
empowered to provide, in some convenient part of said
town, a suitable guard house, lock up, or place of se-
curity, for the confinement of such person or persons as
may be apprehended after ten o'clock at night, for a
violation of any ordinance or ordinances of said corpo-
ration, and to confine such person or persons in the

curity, longer than ten o'clock on the morning ensuing
his or her apprehension.
