five hundred dollars, which the said register is autho-
rised by the Constitution to retain of the proceeds of
his office, to be by the said commissioners appropriated
towards the payment of such sum as may be borrowed
for the purposes authorised by this act.

AN ACT to provide for the Custody of the Public
Buildings and Grounds, within the State House
Enclosure, and the Fire Apparatus, belonging to
the State, and appropriating a sum of Money
therefor.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the State Librarian, be, and he is
hereby charged with the general superintendence of
the public buildings and grounds within the State
House enclosure, as well as of the fire apparatus be-
longing to the State; and that, in execution of such
general superintendance, he is hereby authorised to
employ some competent person, who shall be under
his immediate control and direction, to keep in order
the said buildings and grounds, and whose compensa-
tion shall not exceed the sum of twenty dollars per
month.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That imme-
diately after the adjournment of the Legislature, it
shall be the duty of the person so employed by the
Librarian, under his direction and supervision, to clean
and put in complete order the hall or entrance to the
State House, the Senate Chamber, and Hall of the
House of Delegates, the committee rooms and stairs
ascending thereto, and during the recess, keep them
thoroughly cleaned and ventilated, and before each
session arrange the furniture, carpets and desks, and
prepare both chambers for the assembling of the Legis-
lature.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That the Libra-
rian shall, and he is hereby directed to employ a suita-
ble free white male citizen, whose pay shall not exceed
the sum of thirty dollars per month, to watch and guard
|
