CHAP. 36.

be and the same is hereby altered and changed to Ed-
ward Baltzell Buchanan, and it shall be lawful for the
said Edward Buchanan Baltzell, at all times hereafter
to be called and known by, and hold and use the name

of Edward Baltzell Buchanan, and by that name to
hold, receive, purchase, sell, convey or devise, and to
sue and be sued in any court of law or equity, or
elsewhere.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

AN ACT for the protection of the Burial Grounds

of the Trustees of the Methodist Episcopal Church,

of East Baltimore Station, and of the Trustees

of Saint Patrick's Church in the City of Balti-
more.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, The trustees of the Methodist Episcopal
Church of East Baltimore Station, and the Trustees of
Saint Patrick's Church in the City of Baltimore, by
their petition to this General Assembly, have represent-
ed, that many years ago they purchased adjoining lots,
fronting on the north side of the Philadelphia road, and
running thence to the old Joppa road, which lots are
now, and for a long time have been, used as Burial
grounds; and that Potomac street, Orleans street, Jef-
ferson street and Bower alley, have been so laid down
on the plat of the said city, as to intersect and destroy
their said property for the uses to which it has been ap-
plied, if said streets are opened through said grounds,
and that the said streets have not yet been opened or
condemned through said grounds, and the said peti-
tioners have asked the protection of this Legislature ;
Therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly

of Maryland, That Potomac street, Orleans street, Jef-
ferson street and Bower alley in the City of Baltimore,
shall not, nor shall either of them, be opened through
the burial grounds of the trustees of the Methodist Epis-
copal Church of East Baltimore Station, and of the trus-
tees of Saint Patrick's Church in the City of Baltimore,
or either of them, or any part thereof, without the con-
