teen hundred and forty-seven, chapter two hundred
and twenty-eight.

An ACT to lay off and locale a Public Road in
Howard county.

Commission-
ers appointed.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That Thomas Burgess, Washington
Gaither and John A. Dorsey, of Howard county, be,
and they are hereby appointed commissioners, and they,
or a majority of them, shall have power to enter upon,
survey, lay off and locate a road, beginning at the old
road at the south point of Doctor Hood's farm, and
running thence north on the division line between
Doctor Hood's and James W. Tyson's land, to the
corner-stone between them and Doctor Hewitt; thence
on the land of said James W. Tyson, to the mouth of
Doctor Hewitt's lane, with said lane, until it reaches
Henry Forsyth's land, and then along the bed of an
old road to Mrs. Welsh's field, thence across said field
to the Sykesville Mill road, or elsewhere.

Damages and
advantages.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said commis-
sioners, or a majority of them, shall have power to
value and assess the damages sustained, if any, by the
owners of the land over which they may locale said
road, taking into consideration the advantages as well
as the disadvantages that may result to the said owners

of lands, and to cause the same to be surveyed, and a
plat thereof, together with the valuation of the dam-
ages, if any, to the landholders us aforesaid, and the
expense attending the execution of this act, to be re-
turned to the commissioners of Howard county, and
any persons conceiving themselves aggrieved by the
proceeding and return to the said commissioners, may
object to the ratification thereof before the said board of
commissioners, and when ratified and confirmed by the
said commissioners, and not until then, it shall be filed
and recorded among the public records of the county.

Authority to
levy.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the said board of
commissioners shall, after ratification, levy a sum or
sums of money, not exceeding one hundred and fifty
dollars, to defray all said expenses of locating and
opening said road, and to pay the owners of the lands
