the erection thereof, giving at least twenty days notice,
by advertisement in one or more papers, and three of the
most public places in said county; and the contract for
building the said jail house shall be awarded to the
lowest responsible bidder, who shall be required to enter
into bond with good and sufficient security for the
faithful performance of his contract, to be approved
by the said commissioners.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from the day of its passage.

AN ACT Ceding to the United Stales of America
Jurisdiction over a Site for a Light-House on
Blackistone Island, in the Potomac River.

WHEREAS, By deed of conveyance from Joseph L.
McWilliams and Eliza S., his wife, of Saint Mary's
county, and State of Maryland, to the United States

of America, bearing date the twenty-fifth day of April,
in the year eighteen hundred and fifty, and recorded
among the Land Records of Saint Mary's county, and
State aforesaid, the said Joseph L. McWilliams and
Eliza S., his wife, for a valuable consideration did sell
and confirm unto the said United States of America
and their assigns, for the purpose of erecting a Light-
house thereon, a lot or parcel of land, being part of an
island situated in the Potomac river, called and known
as Blackistone's Island, lying and being in Saint Mary's
county, and State of Maryland aforesaid, and contained
within the following metes and bounds, courses and
distances, to wit: Beginning at a Mulberry tree, at the
head of a pond on the south-west corner of Blackis-
tone's Island, and running thence south, sixty-eight
and two-third degrees; east, twenty-eight perches;
thence south, seventeen and one-third degrees; west,
fourteen perches; thence north, eighty-one and two-
third degrees; west, seventeen perches; thence north,
sixty-two and one-third degrees; west, twelve perches;
thence with a straight line to the beginning, containing
two acres, three-quarters, twenty-three perches and
twenty-two links, according to the actual showing;
