CHAPTER 203.

AN ACT to authorise the Commissioners of Caro-
line county, in their discretion, to sell and dispose of
the old Jail House, in the Town of Denton in said
county, and to Build a new Jail House therein.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly

of Maryland, That the county commissioners of Caro-
line county, be, and they are hereby authorised and
directed, in their discretion, to sell and dispose of the
old jail house, in the town of Denton, in said county,
and so much of the public ground attached thereto, as
may be necessary to insure an advantageous sale of the
same, either for cash or upon a credit, as, in the

opinion of the said commissioners, may be for the interest of
the said county, and the money arising from the said
sale, shall be appropriated as is hereinafter directed,
and upon the payment of the purchase money by the
purchaser or purchasers of the same, the said commis-
sioners, or their successors, are hereby authorised to
execute a good and sufficient deed, or other instrument

of writing, in law, conveying to him, her or them, a
title, in fee simple, to the said house and ground, di-
rected to be sold as aforesaid.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said commis-
sioners, be, and they are hereby authorised, in their
discretion, to levy upon the assessable properly of said
county, such sums of money as may be necessary, to-
gether with the proceeds of the sale of the old jail
house, and so much of the grounds attached thereto,
directed to be sold by the first section of this act, to
build on such site as they may deem most suitable, in
the said town of Denton, a safe and commodious jail
house for the detention of all prisoners who may be
committed to the custody of the sheriff of the said
county, and also, for the accommodation of a keeper
and his family.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the money aris-
ing from the sale of the old jail house and so much of
the ground attached thereto, as are directed by the first
section of this act to be sold, be, and the same is hereby
appropriated to the building of a new jail house in said
county, and the same shall not be appropriated to any
other purpose whatsoever.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That if the commis-
sioners of the said county, shall determine to build a
jail house, it shall be their duty to issue proposals for
