CHAPTER 197.

CHAP. 197.

AN ACT to authorize the County Commissioners
for Dorchester county, In levy a sum of money to
build a Bridge across Slaughter Creek, from the
main land to Taylor's Island.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly

of Maryland, That the county commissioners for Dor-
chester county, be, and they are authorised to levy the
sum of three thousand five hundred dollars upon the
assessable property of said county, to build a bridge
across Slaughter Creek, from the main land to Taylor's
Island in said county, if the commissioners, or a ma-
jority of them, deem it advisable to do so.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That if the said county
commissioners should determine to build said bridge,

that they be authorized to appoint five commissioners,

whose duty it shall be to determine and select the place
for said bridge, wherever a majority of said commission-
ers shall so determine; and the said commissioners have
power to condemn and value a sufficient quantity of
land for a road to and from said bridge.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That if the said county
commissioners should determine to build said bridge,

that they be authorized and directed to advertise, at least
twenty days in one of the newspapers of said county,
for sealed proposals, to build said bridge, and shall give
it to the lowest responsible bidder, that will give bond
and security, to be approved by said commissioners of

the county; Provided, the said contract does not ex-
ceed the sum of thirty-five hundred dollars, then, in
that case, the said county commissioners be authorised
to levy the sum of thirty-five hundred dollars, as pro-
vided for in the first section of this bill, and not other-
wise.

Proviso.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That if the above-
named bridge be built across said Slaughter Creek, be-
low sloop or schooner navigation, the commissioners of
said bridge be directed to have a sufficient draw put in
said bridge for the navigation of said creek.
