Roads, in Kent county be changed, and that in future
it shall be called and known by the name of Colches-
ter.

 

CHAPTER 120.

Passed Dec. 27,
1811.

An act to appoint commissioners to open a road in
Worcester county.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, it is represented to this General As-
sembly by the petition of sundry inhabitants of Wor-
cester county, that the laying out and opening a road
in said county, across from the road leading from
Snow-Hill to Miller's mills, to intersect the road lead-
ing from Dennis' mill to Nassaongo creek, would be
of general public advantage: — Therefore,

appointed, who
are to lay out
said road. Its
width, direc-
tion, &c.

BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That John P. Marshall, Selby Parker, Mil-
by Alkins, Robert Givan, senior, and Thomas Jones,
senior, be, and they are hereby appointed commission-
ers; and the said commissioners, or a majority of them,
are hereby authorised to open and lay out a road at
least twenty feet wide, beginning on the north side of
Elijah Laws' mill, and at the road leading from Snow-
Hill to Miller's mills, and from thence running with a
road cut through to intersect a road leading from
Dennis' mill to Nassaongo creek, or to run in such
direction as the said commissioners may think will
be most convenient for the people, and of the least dis-
advantage to the persons through whose land the same
may pass; Provided, that nothing herein contained
shall in any manner authorise the said commissioners
lo open said road through the buildings, gardens, orch-
ards, yards ar meadows of any person or persons,
without his, her or their consent.

Commissioners
shall ascertain
damages.

AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said com-
missioners, or a majority of them, shall ascertain and
value what damages may be sustained by any person
or persons through whose land the said road may pass
by opening and clearing the same.

Payment of
damages.

AND BE IT ENACTED, That the damages so
assessed shall be paid or secured to be paid to the
individuals concerned, by the persons interested in
opening the said road, before the same shall be opened.

Commissioners
shall return a

lot to county
court, to be re-
corded

AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said commis,
sioners, or a majority of them, are hereby directed to
make out a plot of said road as laid out and marked
by them, and return the same to the clerk of Worces-
ter county court, who shall record the same.
