CHAPTER 114,

Passed De. 27,

1811..

An act for the benefit of James Cochran, of Cecil
county.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, It is represented to this General As-
sembly by the petition of James Cochran, late a col-
lector in Cecil county, that he was some years ago ac-
tuated by motives of benevolence to take the collec-
tion of the tax in part of said county for the sole use
and benefit of a certain Thomas Taylor, who engaged
to collect and pay over the said tax to the several per-
sons authorised to receive the same; and that the said
Thomas Taylor did duly collect and pay over accord-
ingly the said tax, which induced the said James Coch-
ran further to take said collection, and to continue the
said Taylor as his deputy, without taking any security
from him for several succeeding years, during which
the said Taylor faithfully executed his duty, until the
year eighteen hundred and nine, when he stopped pay-
ment and became a defaulter for near two thousand
dollars; And whereas, A petition has also been receiv-
ed from a number of the most respectable citizens of
said county, praying that said Cochran, who is the
father of eleven living children, may be exonerated
from the payment of the said money: — Therefore,

He is released

from debts due
from him to Cae-
cil county as
collector of tax.

BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the said James Cochran be, and he
is hereby released from the payment of the several
sums which appear to be due from him to Cecil county
