relief of sundry insolvent debtor, " and the several sup-
plements thereto, without requiring the said Benjamin
Goodhue to produce the assent, in writing, of two
thirds of his creditors, as is prescribed by the provi-
sions of the said act and supplements.

An act authorising a Lottery for raising a sum
of money for the benefit and me of Durham
Parish, in Charles county.

Preamble;

WHEREAS, The vestry of Durham Parish, in
Charles county have, by their petition to this General
Assembly, prayed for an act authorising a lottery for
certain purposes therein mentioned, and the prayer of
the petitioners appearing reasonable: — Therefore,

BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Reverend Mr. Duncan (the pre-
sent pastor of the said parish) Alexander Greer, John
Barnes, John Mitchell and Doctor Samuel Hanson, of
Charles county, Alexander C. Magruder, of Annapo-
lis, and the Reverend Joseph G. J. Bend, George
Grundy, Thomas Hollingsworth, Edward Johnson,
Richardson Stewart and Robert Ferguson, of the city
of Baltimore, or a majority of them, be, and they are
hereby authorised to propose a scheme of a lottery or
lotteries to raise a sum of money not exceeding twenty
thousand dollars, to be appropriated for the repairing of
the parish church of Durham Parish, in Charles coun-
ty, the building a chapel of ease and the providing a
parsonage in the said parish; and that they, or any
three of them be, and they arc hereby authorised to
sell and dispose of tickets in the said lottery or lotte-
ries in any part of the state, exclusive of any control
over the same by the corporation of the city of Balti-
more; any law or usage to the contrary notwithstand-
ing; Provided, The said Reverend Mr. Duncan, Alex-
ander Greer, John Barnes, John Mitchell, Doctor
Samuel Hanson, Alexander C. Macgruder, Joseph G.
J. Bend, George Grundy, Thomas Hollingsworth, Ed-
ward Johnson, Richardson Stewart and Robert Fer-
guson, or any three or more of them, before they pro-
ceed to make sale of any ticket or tickets in the said lot-
tery or lotteries, shall give and execute a bond to the
state of Maryland in the penalty of seventy thousand
dollars, conditioned that they will well and truly con-
duct the drawing of the said lottery or lotteries, and
that they will apply the money arising therefrom with-
