any taxes; and the governor and council are hereby author-
ised, wherever it may be found necessary, to organise batta-
lions and regiments of riflemen and artillery, and compa-
nies of horse or flying artillery, and appoint the requisite
officers; and when said corps or companies shall have uni-
formed themselves, the governor and council are hereby
authorised to loan them the necessary arms and field
pieces, agreeably lo the provisions of this act.

1812.

AN0 WHEREAS. In addition to the many other
advantages which would result, an immense sum of mo-
ney: would be saved to the citizens by adapting a uniform
for the state.

53. BE IT ENACTED, That the uniform for the in-
fantry of this state shall be, for general officers, their
aids-de-camps and brigade inspectors, long dark blue
coat faced with buff, buff collar and cuffs, yellow but-
tons and buff under clothes, long boots and chapeaux-de-
bras.

For field, company and staff officers, long dark blue
coat edged with red, red collar and cuffs, white but-
tons, dark blue pantaloons edged with red for winter, and
while under clothes for summer, black gaiters or half
boots, chapeaux-de-bras and black cockade.

For non-commissioned officers and privates, short dark
blue coat, red cuffs and collar, while buttons, blue panta-
loons, black gaiters and shoes or half boots.

For cavalry, short coats and pantaloons of dark blue
cloth edged with red, long half boots, a helmet or cap of
leather covered with bear skin.

collar and cuffs, yellow buttons, blue pantaloons, black
gaiters or half boots and chapeaux-de-bras.

54 AND BE IT ENACTED, Thai all companies,
troops or corps, which shall be raised after the passage of
this act who shall uniform themselves, shall conform to
the uniform of the state; and all those companies, troops
or corps who have at present a different uniform, shall
adopt that of the state within three years after the pas-
sage of this act.

55. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the act of as-
sembly entitled, "An act to regulate and discipline the
militia of this state, " and the several supplements thereto
be, and the same are hereby repealed:. Provided, That all
commissions issued under the same be, and are hereby
declared to be of the same force, validity and effect, as if
