LAWS OF MARYLAND.

1811.

down the names of the voters, and otherwise to assist
in the said election; and it shall be the duty of the
said judges to give public notice in one or more of the
newspapers of the city of Baltimore five several days,
of the time and place of 'holding said elections, which
place shall be within the said district; and that the
said judges shall keep the polls open one day, from nine
o'clock in the morning until five o'clock in the even-
ing, and shall, within three days after such election,
notify the persons having the greatest number of legal
votes, that they are duly elected; and shall make a re-
turn and deposit their polls with the clerk of Balti-
more county court.

3. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said commis-
sioners, by the aforesaid name of the Commissioners
of the Eastern Precincts, be, and they are hereby de-
clared a body corporate, with all the privileges of a
corporate body, and to have one common seal, and
perpetual succession.

4. AND BE IT ENACTED, That each of the said
commissioners, before he proceeds to act as such, shall
take the following oath or affirmation: I do solemn-
ly swear, or affirm, (as the case may be) that I will
honestly and impartially, without favor or affection,
discharge all the duties imposed on me as a commis-
sioner of the Eastern precincts, according to law, and
to the best of my skill and judgment — So help me
God.

5. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said commis-
sioners, within ten days after they have qualified as
such, shall appoint a clerk, who shall give bond to the
state of Maryland, in the sum of two thousand five
hundred dollars, with sufficient security, to be approv-
ed by the said commissioners, conditioned lor the
faithful discharge of all the duties assigned him by
this act; which bond shall be lodged with the clerk of
Baltimore county court, and suits may be instituted
and recovery had thereon by such persons as may be
interested therein; in the same manner as on sheriffs
bonds; and that before the said clerk proceed to act
as such, he shall take the following oath or affirmation:
I do solemnly swear, or affirm, (as the case may be)
that I will, as clerk to the commissioners, make out
and keep a fair record of all their proceedings, and in«
every other respect faithfully and honestly discharge
the several duties of my appoint ment, to the best of my
skill and judgment — So help me God.
