and in order to meet all expenses which may be incur-
red in the performance of these duties, and in the
maintenance of the establishment, the said commis-
sioners shall have, in virtue of this act, full power and

authority, and they are hereby required, to levy, from
time, to time, on the assessable property of said county
such sum or sums of money, as they may deem neces-
sary to be levied, by instalments of one, two, and three
years; and it shall be incumbent upon said commission-
ers to proceed to the discharge of the various duties im-
posed by this act, as soon as the public convenience, in
their judgment, will permit.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That after the erection
of said Alms-house, and the same shall have been pre-
pared for use, the commissioners aforesaid shall invite
those indigent persons who receive pensions by county
assessments, to relinquish the same, and repair to the
protection which may be afforded by the Alms-house
hereby intended to be established; and if such persons
when so invited, shall refuse or neglect to comply will
such invitation, then it shall and may be lawful for the
commissioners aforesaid, to levy such sums of money
as they may deem necessary for the support of such

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland
That so much of the fourth section of an act concern-
ing crimes and punishments, passed at December
session, eighteen hundred and thirty-five, chapter two
hundred, as limits the discretion of the Baltimore
city court to the sum of thirty dollars, be and the same
is hereby repealed.
