LAWS OF MARYLAND,

CHAP. 99.

at any time call a meeting, upon advising all the stock-
holders, by advertisement or otherwise, of the time and
place of holding said meetings.

Capital stock
to be personal
estate.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the stock of the said
company shall bo deemed personal estate; that all the
property, estate and joint stock of the corporation, shall
be bound and answerable for its debts and liabilities.

Banking forbid.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That nothing contained
herein shall be construed as granting banking privileges,
or to authorise the said corporation to issue any note,
token, device, scrip or other evidence of debt, to be used
as currency, or as exempting their property and effects
from general taxation.

Right reserved.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That this act of incor-
poration shall continue for thirty years, and that the
State reserves the right to alter or amend, and repeal
the same, whenever the public interest may require it.

CHAPTER 99.

Feb. 11, 1850.

An act la provide for the purchase of Land, and the
erection of an Alms-house in Allegany County .

Preamble.

WHEREAS, It is represented to this General Assem-
bly, that there is no house for the reception of the poor
within said county, and that they are satisfied that the
comfort and accommodation of such persons would be
greatly subserved and promoted, as well its the taxable
inhabitants of said county would be relieved from much
unnecessary and onerous taxation, by the establishment
in said county, for the reception and accommodation of:
all persons therein, disabled by age, decrepitude, or
otherwise, from procuring the means of support — There-
fore?

To purchase

B SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the commissioners of Allegany
county, be hereby authorised and required to purchase
two hundred acres of land, more or less, as they may
deem fit, in said county, for the purpose of erecting a
building thereon, for the reception and accommodation
of the poor of said county; and they shall likewise be
authorised and required to purchase all articles requisite
for farming said land, and for other purposes appertain-
ing to said Alms-house, and to employ a steward to
take charge of the said house, land, and appurtenances ;
