CHAP. 96.

An act to Incorporate the Maryland State Agricultu-

ral Society.

Passed Feb. 1,
1850.

WHEREAS, a number of persons have associated for

the purpose of informing and encouraging the science
and practice of agriculture, by the holding of exhibi-
tions; the distributions of premiums for excellence; the
eliciting and publishing of essays, transactions and pro-
ceedings upon agricultural subject or subjects kindred
thereto; the institution of experiments; the establish-
ment of libraries; the collecting and preserving of mod-
els and specimens; the providing of proper and conve-
nient rooms and places of resort for persons in pursuit of
agricultural information; the establishment of experi-
mental farms and schools, where agricultural science
may be be tested and taught; and generally to promote
the interest of agriculture, and the arts and sciences con-
nected therewith, and are now desirous of being incor-

porated — Therefore,

Preamble.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Charles B. Calvert, of Prince
George's county, John Glenn, of Baltimore city, H. G.
S. Key, of St. Mary's county, J. G. Chapman, of
Charles county, Horace Capron, of Prince George's
county, John H. Somerville, of Anne Arundel county,
Charles Carroll, of Howard District, A. Bowie Davis,
of Montgomery county, David W. Naill, of Frederick
county, William Doge, of Washington county, Samuel
P. Smith, of Allegany county, George Patterson, of
Carroll county, Wilson M. Gary, of Baltimore county,
Alexander Norris, of Harford county, James McIntire,
of Cecil county, George S. Hollyday, of Kent county,
James T. Earle, of Queen Anne's county, N. Goldsbo-
rough, of Talbot county, T. R. Stewart, of Caroline
county, J. E. Muse, of Dorchester county, W. H.
Jones, of Somerset county, J. Stevenson, of Worcester
county, Joseph H. Bradley, of Columbia. P. C. Hoi-
comb, of the State of Delaware, J. M. Ware, of the
State of Virginia, Aaron Clements, of the State of Penn-
sylvania, George W. Dobbin, of Howard District, Sam-
uel Sands, of Baltimore city, James McNeal, of Balti-
more city, W. W. W. Bowie, of Prince George's coun-
ty, N. B. Worthington, of Anne Arundel county, J.
Carroll Walsh, of Harford county, James G. Cox, of
Baltimore city, Charles R. Howard, of Baltimore coun-
ty, and Martin Goldsborough, of Talbot county, and
