CHAP. 513.

and dismiss them at pleasure, to provide for furnish
ing to the stockholders certificates of stock, and for
the transfer of stock, and the evidence of such trans-
fer, and to pass all bye-laws necessary for exercising
the rights and powers vested in the said company,
and to alter or repeal, from time to time, the said bye-
laws, subject to the revision of the stockholders at a
general meeting, as is hereinbefore provided.

Dimensions,
etc.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That the said company
shall cause the said road to be laid out not less than
thirty-six feet, nor more than fifty-feet in width, and
shall cause eighteen feet or more in width thereof to
be made an artificial road of stone, gravel or other

hard substance; provided, that if any portion of said
road can be made in good order, without a covering
of such material, the said company shall not be com-
pelled to use such covering.

SEC. 8. And be it enacted, That the said company
having perfected at least one mile of said road, shall
have the power to erect on and across said road one
toll gate, and collect and receive from all persons using
said road the same tolls as are now charged and col-
lected at the gates of the .Baltimore and Havre de
Grace Turnpike Road, and the said company shall
have power to reduce the rates of toll whenever they

see fit; provided, no toll shall be charged any person
for passing over said road from one part of their farm
to another part, nor passing to or from public worship,
or a funeral.

Rights and
privileges.

SEC. 9. And be it enacted, That the company here
by incorporated shall have all the powers and privi-
leges which are granted and given by the act, with
the supplements thereto, incorporating the Baltimore
and Havre de Grace Turnpike Road Company, and
which are not inconsistent with the provisions of this
act.

Declared to be
a public road
until toll gate
is erected.

SEC. 10. And be it enacted, That the said portion
of the said White House and Joppa road, contemplated
to he used for the said Turnpike road, shall be con-
sidered a county road, until one toll-gate is erected
thereon, and the county commissioners of Harford
county will levy money to keep the same in repair
until said toll gate is erected.

Banking forbid.

SEC. 11. And be it enacted, That nothing in this
act shall be construed to allow said company banking
privileges.

Reservation.

SEC. 12. And be it enacted, That the General Assem-
bly hereby reserves the right to alter, amend or repeal
this act at pleasure.
