thereafter, by executing his note or confessing a judg-
ment as aforesaid, for one-half of the original premium,
and every seven years thereafter, shall be entitled to a
similar reduction, until the whole premium shall be ex-
tinguished, at which period his, her or their property
shall be insured without premium, interest or expense,

CHAP. 501.

as long as this charter shall endure; provided always,
that before any such reduction of premium or interest
thereon shall be made, at every septennial distribution
of profile, after the first distribution, the sum of five
thousand dollars of the nett profits shall be added to the
first sum of ten thousand dollars, to constitute an active
capital to meet losses.

Proviso.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall go in-
to effect, as soon as a majority of the stockholders of said
company, present at a meeting of said company, called
in pursuance of the bye-laws of said company, shall
approve and consent to the same.


CHAPTER 501.

When to go in
to operation.

An act to extend the time of Benjamin Vandiver, late
Collector of Taxes for Cecil County, to complete his
Collections.

1850.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly

of Maryland, That Benjamin Vandiver, collector of
taxes for the years eighteen hundred and forty-five and
eighteen hundred and forty-six, in the seventh election
district of Cecil county, be and he is hereby authorised
and empowered to collect any taxes, or balances of tax-
es, now remaining due and uncollected by him in said
county, in the same manner, and with the same powers,
that he could have collected the same within the time
prescribed by law.

Time allowed.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said Benjamin
Vandiver, before he shall proceed to collect the said
taxes, or balances of taxes, shall make out an account
of the same, to be delivered to the several persons by
whom said taxes, or balances of taxes may be due, and
shall also make affidavit, before some justice of the peace
of said county, that the said taxes, or balances of taxes,
remain due and unpaid, and that he hath not, either di-
rectly or indirectly, received any security therefor.
